5G - Increasing connectivity matters in a time of crisis

5G ‑ Increasing connectivity matters in a time of crisis

5G is a major improvement in mobile radio and network technologies that deliver much higher download speeds and much lower latency through the network than 4G technologies. Wi-Fi 6 and 5G now both provide higher speeds, lower latency and increased capacity. Should companies continue using Wi-Fi or switch to 5G to leverage its next-generation benefits?

Life as we knew it is on hold for the time being. Yet if there’s one thing this crisis is demonstrating, it’s the value of staying connected. Modern applications, such as big data, mobility, cloud and the Internet of Things (IoT), to name a few, continue to extend traditional enterprise perimeters .

Mobile networks across Europe are proving a critical backbone amid this pandemic. Cellular, fixed broadband and wireless technologies are all essential for helping businesses of all sizes keep things running remotely. They also allow us to check in regularly with family members from afar and to catch-up with friends for coffee or drinks, albeit virtually.

Digital transformation is here, and it's redefining the home and how we live. Entertainment, work or learning, the home has become the hub for well...everything.

Next-gen 5G and Wi-Fi 6 is perfect for hyper connected smart-homes and businesses that need flawless connectivity on multiple devices with promised speeds of 500Mbps to 1Gbps on 5G connections, enterprises are considering mobile as a primary connection in many situations; allowing you to stream, game or work, without having to worry about buffering, dropouts or interference, fast rollout of branches where fibre is not (yet) available, temporary locations (events, pop-up stores, concerts, sports…), emergency situations (i.e., temporary hospitals that require connectivity)

After so long working from home and following government guidelines, workers across Europe are now realising that a ‘short stint’ working from home has become more long-term. Into 2021 and beyond, we will, of course, see increased business investment in implementing more robust solutions that allow IT departments to have greater oversight of a company’s network either on-premise or in employee homes, enabling more control and visibility.

According to Gartner, more than one-third of European professionals will remain remote full-time. This means that meetings held via video conference and conferences hosted as webinars may be commonplace for a while. Working from home and hybrid working will require better connectivity and increased security concerns associated with telecommuting.

You’ll never have to wait again.

D-Link’s newest launches are engineered to optimise the home network ecosystem and help people continue to adapt to new routines.

D-Link’s 5G Wi-Fi 6 Mobile Hotspot (DWR-2101) and 5G AC2600 Wi-Fi Router (DWR-978) offer lighting-fast 5G connectivity on-the-go, or to the home or office.

With Internet download speeds of up to 1.6 Gbps, these 5G routers are perfectly placed to power the most data-intensive online applications and remote working that has become the norm of today. Watch 8K movies, download ultra-huge files and stream live high-quality content without any lag or buffering.

5G and Wi-Fi 6

We will see significant uptake in Wi-Fi 6, which provides unprecedented capacity and speeds to power smart homes. However, this will also bring in to focus the need for consumers to update existing systems so that they can benefit from new technology. With 5G kicking in, people will have the freedom to connect from anywhere, providing more flexibility when it comes to work but also more connectivity options between traditional wired and new cellular services.
