Can the SAN auto-start when power is applied?
Normally, the SAN unit requires that the administrator press the power button to start the system. However, in scenarios where the SAN unit is placed in a remote location without an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), is there any way to configure the unit to reboot automatically after a power failure?
Yes: DSN-1100-10: Open the chassis to see the controller board itself. Located near the front of the controller board is a jumper block labeled J4. Placing a jumper over the two pins of J4 will cause the SAN unit to reboot automatically when the power returns after a blackout. DSN-2000 and 3000 Series: Open the chassis to see the controller board itself. Located at the rear of the controller near the management port is a jumper labeled J52 (please do not confuse this with J53 which is used for the temporary-on button used to start the unit normally). Placing a jumper over the two pins of J52 will cause the SAN unit to reboot automatically when the power returns after a blackout. If you install a jumper on J52, it is recommended that you remove the temporary-on button that is attached to J53. DSN-5000 Series: No jumper is required. Any of these products will automatically reboot upon return of power.
