D-Link combats extreme outdoor surveillance challenges with new robust, 5 megapixel camera

Businesses to benefit from ultra-high detail image sensor and camera’s ability to operate in extreme lighting and weather conditions

D-Link is expanding its range of outdoor dome cameras with a 5 megapixel model to provide consistently high-quality footage, even in the most challenging outdoor environments. The 5 Megapixel Varifocal Outdoor Dome Network Camera (DCS-6517) is an ultra-high definition professional surveillance and security solution that businesses and enterprises can rely on to monitor large open areas.

The camera uses a 5 megapixel progressive scan CMOS sensor to deliver superior, high-resolution video and capture all the details businesses need, right down to facial and number plate recognition. This makes it ideal for use in high-risk areas.

High-quality video is reliably delivered whatever the time or place, thanks to the camera’s ability to combat strong lighting and poor weather conditions. Wide Dynamic Range technology neutralises imperfect lighting to prevent overexposure in bright sunlight and provides clear images with the right amount of contrast, even for backlit subjects or where a shadow falls. In addition, the camera’s IR LED illuminator captures detailed footage in dark areas over a 20-metre range for reliable surveillance 24/7.

“Security is high on the agenda for so many businesses. Whilst video surveillance is an effective and affordable way to keep premises and contents safe, outdoor environments have traditionally presented challenges for many cameras. D-Link has launched the 5 Megapixel Varifocal Outdoor Dome Network Camera to overcome these hurdles,” said Kevin Wen, President of D-Link Europe Ltd. “A range of features suitable for the outdoors and a high resolution image sensor means security-conscious businesses will always get high-quality and detailed images, for ultimate security and reassurance.”

To perform in the most demanding outdoor surveillance environments, the camera boasts a robust design with industry standard vandal-proof (IK10) and weatherproof (IP66) housing including a dedicated sunshield.

It couldn’t be easier for businesses to get their surveillance set-up off the ground thanks to the outdoor dome camera’s Power over Ethernet support and a range of mounting options. The all-in-one design offers versatile installation in a wide variety of outdoor locations and situations such as against a wall or ceiling in a car park, warehouse or arena.

Additional features give businesses extra flexibility, from a microSD Card slot for on-board storage, to a DI/DO socket for connection to external devices. The camera’s audio in and out jacks can be connected to a microphone and speaker for two-way communication in the event that businesses need to communicate with someone on site.

The 5 Megapixel Varifocal Outdoor Dome Network Camera (DCS-6517) is the latest camera to be included in D-Link’s Smart Installer Program. D-Link Smart Installers can achieve competitive advantage with a range of cameras designed for both outdoor and indoor use.
