D-Link meets evolving network demands of medium-to-large enterprises with new Unified Wireless Controller

One-stop platform for administrators to effectively and securely manage their network environment

10 August, 2015

London UK, August 10, 2015D-Link’s highly scalable and easy-to-deploy wireless access management solution comes to commercial, finance, education, hospitality and many other medium-to-large enterprise environments with the launch of its Unified Wireless Controller (DWC-2000). The centralised Wireless LAN manager allows users to manage up to 64 wireless access points as standard with the option to upgrade to 256 if network demands become more strenuous; ensuring the Unified Wireless Controller puts enterprise-class networking right at the fingertips of network administrators.

Boasting the ability to easily manage up to 1,024 wireless access points in a controller cluster, the device is a cost-effective solution for medium to large-scale deployments. These include university campuses, healthcare, managed offices, hotels, multi-floor and multi-building office environments.

Set-up takes minutes using the simplified Setup Wizard interface. For added user convenience it can automatically discover compatible D-Link Wireless Access Points, add them into the managed access point list, and set one-time configuration dispatch settings. This eliminates the need to execute large or complex configurations, reducing the burden on busy network administrators.

“Network demands change very quickly in today’s workplaces, which can create a bigger and more complex landscape for network administrators. As your business grows, so does your wireless network. The D-Link Unified Wireless Controller addresses these demands.  It provides high scalability with the option to upgrade from 64 up to 256 access points per controller. At the same time the centralised Wireless LAN manager helps to ensure the reliability and security of the wireless environment. With channel resellers experiencing growing demand for end-to-end network solutions, the DWC-2000 Unified Wireless Controller serves to compliment many of the enterprise grade solutions they may already offer.” said Andrew Mulholland, Business Solutions & Marketing Manager, D-Link UKI.

For businesses such as hotels or retail spaces that need to offer free or paid wireless networks to large numbers of guests concurrently, integrated guest management features make this easy and safe. From account generation and user monitoring to session extension, the features simplify guest wireless network management. They also provide management of factors such as bandwidth quality and help control resources that temporary accounts can gain access to.

With security features at the top of the agenda for many businesses, this controller provides robust and comprehensive wireless security, helping to block potential attacks from unauthorised users and appliances.

The integrated Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) detects rogue access points, rogue clients, and can anticipate wireless threats to prevent potential breaches with integral and detailed logging facilities. This is coupled with the device’s Captive Portal feature. It can block clients from accessing the network until their identification has been confirmed, to bolster the robust security parameters.

To get the visibility that network administrators need, a dashboard displays real-time monitoring of access points. Plus, customisable widgets allow network resources to be efficiently managed and optimised thanks to at-a-glance insights.

Features include:

  • Hardware physical security
  • Radio power & channel allocation
  • Multiple SSID’s & Rogue AP detection
  • Customise captive portal & wireless mapping
  • AD integration
  • 4+4 wireless controller redundancy & AP provisioning
  • Self-organising, self-optimising & self-healing technology
