D-Link today launched the 5 Megapixel Varifocal Outdoor Network Camera (DCS-7517), offering organisations of all sizes an easy to manage, high definition exterior security solution. Businesses that need high levels of visual detail for security – such as being able to see a face or number plate clearly – will benefit from the detailed image quality. The DCS-7517 is specially designed to deliver clear images across different environmental conditions, including low light, harsh weather conditions or low and high temperature ranges.

The versatility and high image quality offered by the DCS-7517 means it can be used in business and commercial scenarios such as airports, banks, retail outlets, supermarkets, public spaces and car parks. Support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) means the camera can be rapidly deployed into locations where conventional mains power feeds are inaccessible. In each location it forms part of an effective surveillance system, with high quality images that can even feed data into facial or number plate recognition solutions. It can also be controlled easily using the remote focus function, so repositioning the camera as business needs change is a simple process.

To deliver clear images in all lighting conditions, the camera automatically enhances images, ensuring it can be relied upon for 24-hour monitoring. Integrated Wide Dynamic Range image enhancement improves image quality when there is uneven lighting, while the IR cut filter moves to allow more light into the lens in low-light situations. The IR LED illuminators allow visibility in complete darkness up to 30 metres.

Additional rugged features also include built-in heating and cooling capabilities, IP66 weatherproof housing, and a sunshield to protect the unit when mounted outdoors without natural shade.
