D-Link, the multinational networking equipment manufacturer, today announced expansions to its acclaimed DGS-3630 Series of Layer 3 Stackable Managed Gigabit switches. The company is rounding off the portfolio with two new Power over Ethernet (PoE) models; the DGS-3630-28PC offering 24 PoE+ GE ports, and the DGS-3630-52PC featuring 48 PoE+ GE ports. 

Thanks to high port density, switch stacking options and easy management, the DGS-3630 Series switches are ideal for a wide variety of applications - working either as a core, distribution or access layer switch. They are designed to scale from Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) use, through to enterprise and ISP applications.

Earlier this year, a DGS-3630 Series switch was independently tested and verified as having outstanding performance by Tolly, a leading global provider of third-party validation services for vendors of IT products and services.

The addition of PoE capability to stackable switches with full management makes the DGS-3630-28PC and DGS-3630-52PC ideal switches to build an incredibly fast yet robust 802.11ac wireless network. The high port density and generous PoE power budget mean multiple high-performance wireless access points can be connected and powered by a single switch. In addition, traffic management feature together with 10 Gigabit connectivity helps to optimise the network and reduce potential bottlenecks. 

The stacking capability of the DGS-3630 Series allows up to 9 switches to be combined to form a single physical stack, this can make up to 432 Gigabit Ethernet ports available, allowing switching capacity to scale with demand. Stacking also increases redundancy over multiple physical units and simplifies management by providing a single IP address to manage all members of the stack.

Multiple software images are available for the DGS-3630 series, these provide customers with the option to upgrade if, or when, particular features are required. By default, DGS-3630 Series switches include the Standard Image (SI). The Enhanced Image (EI) or MPLS Image (MI) are available via a separately ordered license upgrade. The Standard Image provides core SMB and SME functionality, such as L2 switching, entry-level routing, L2 multicast, advanced Quality of Service (QoS), Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM), and robust security features. The Enhanced Image includes all the features from the Standard Image and adds support for full L3 routing for Enterprise integration, including OSPF, BGP, VRF-Lite and L3 multicast. The MPLS Image offers VPN services for ISPs, including IS-IS and MPLS L2/L3 VPN.
